Today’s dogs are domesticated form of the gray wolf. It is hard to believe that your gentle and always playful Labrador retriever is sharing same blood with fearsome wolf but it is true. First dogs were fist tamed around 15 000 years ago and may be the first wild animal to be domesticated. They had great value for the early human settlements. Dogs have many roles for people such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, helping handicapped people, protecting, assisting military and police and so on. Today dog is man’s best friend and they have little in common with their ancestors. Some of the breeds still have distinctive wolfs appearance but it goes as far as that. Dog is most widely owned home pet and they come in all shapes and sizes, from the really small ones to the real giants of dog world.
